What words can it spell,
This alphabet of one sensibility? - Rexroth

She loves raspberries and a strong jaw. - Sara Eve, 2005

I want to move, but I know I will never find nights as complex as these. - Sara Eve, 2008

Panther
Black bellies of bare branches
Snake through the silent forest
Under hay bales and hillocks of pure
White snow.
The air sharpens
The honey-lemon cough drop
Down my white throat.
Dusk stalks from the wood.
A form glides onto my path
Like ink pooling in the eye.
A great cat traces
Ice-laden lines of old bamboo
Looking for seclusion.
High China, winter.
Everything out of place:
The black panther,
The snow,
My eye.
The Truth
The truth is, I have been unsure of everything
since the day I was born.
Maybe every day, maybe every two-thousand years
or two-million years one of us
gods, primates, beautiful animations
reaches that final conclusion: we don't know.
The end of the road: no one knows.
Then we turn aside
and make love without questions
on the soft shoulder of everything we remember.
Milton, Paradise Lost, Book IX, lines 1022-1027:
Much pleasure we have lost, while we abstained
From this delightful fruit, nor known till now
True relish, tasting; if such pleasure be
In things to us forbidden, it might be wished,
For this one tree had been forbidden ten.
But come, so well refreshed, now let us play...
Valentine: Oh, I'm a panther. I shall slip unnoticed through the darkness...like a dark, unnoticeable slippy thing.

Rain on a dusty road today. - Alli, 2006
